Jo Carter
LPC Intern
I'm Jo, and by my calculations, I'm on my third or fourth act in life. I've been a military dependent, an academic, and a corporate middle-manager -- all of which has convinced me that the world can really mess with your head. I've decided to spend the rest of my life helping people shed the unhelpful messages in their head and get less stuck in their lives.
Our culture is often obsessed with self-improvement, as if change is easy and everyone else is doing it; in reality, intentional, thoughtful change can be really hard, especially if you're working on it alone. As a person-centered counselor, I'll work with you to identify the patterns of thought or behavior that are standing between you and the person you truly want to be. You are the expert in your own life, but I'm a good listener and hopefully ask some good questions that will help you think your way to a better place and like yourself better along the way.
My approach is relaxed, non-judgmental, and supportive, incorporating humor and play to perhaps reach the creative inner child that lives in even the stodgiest grown-up. If you're going through rough spots in life, feeling sad, scared, or simply exhausted by the world, I'm here to keep you company and help navigate as you drive.
